Charcoal Powder, Activated
Charcoal Powder, Activated
NO HOME SHOULD BE WITHOUT CHARCOAL!
Charcoal is an adsorbent and will adsorb up to 300 times its own weight and various gases. It is very useful as an antiseptic due to its adsorbing and oxidizing qualities. It acts like a magnet, attracting substances to itself and holding them tightly on to its surface.
Charcoal draws the poisons into itself and neutralizes it. Nothing else does it. It is used in hospitals for poisons. It was used in WW1 in gas masks and it is used in water filters.
Internal................for indigestion, diarrhea, gas, fermentation.
External............... stings or bites, gangrene, old ulcers and sores
Good to mix with something that will hold it in suspension:
Flax seed ground, cornstarch, oats, Metamucil (psyllium) is also a drawer, good to add to charcoal.
Charcoal Poultice Supplies: BE CAREFUL, CHARCOAL STAINS!
- 3 parts charcoal powder
- 2 parts warm water
- 1 part ground flax seed or corn starch
- Bowl (charcoal will stain plastic bowls)
- Wire whip or fork
- Chux (blue under pad) or many use piece of old sheet material
- Plastic wrap (if sheet material is used)
- Bandage tape (1 inch width for small poultice, three inch width for medium and large poultices).
Directions:
1. Briskly whip charcoal powder, flax seed, and warm water with whip or fork, adding water occasionally until charcoal mixture becomes the consistency of thick jelly. A little extra water may be needed to get this consistency.
2. (If using Chux, skip to step 3). Cut material to size desired for poultice. Leave room for a 1 inch margin between charcoal and poultice edge. Place cloth on plastic wrap cut to the same size.
3. Spread charcoal mixture on material or Chux thick enough to cover cloth – about as thick as spreading creamy peanut butter on bread. Be sure to leave a 1 inch margin to allow room for tape. If using Chux, lift the thin transparent layer on top and spread charcoal underneath on the white quilted surface; then replace the top layer.
4. Seal outer edges of poultice with tape.
5. Place poultice gently on area to be treated. Cover with plastic wrap, then secure well with an ace bandage. Leave on for 3 – 4 hours, overnight or according to physician’s directions.
